Purify with UV or Osmosis?

On the internet you can read a lot about purifying water by means of an Osmosis "treatment". This method of purification results in a demineralization of the water. The minerals are removed from the water, which means that the water is less "hard". The white effect that ''hard'' water has has been remedied and water becomes ''pure''. Water that has only been treated by means of Osmosis is not water that you can drink, after all it is pure and only demineralized!

The difference with UV is that UV kills bacteria and viruses, which makes the water drinkable. By using UV technology, you ensure that whatever water you purify (rainwater, water from a lake and other types of water), the water is drinkable.

It is important to know that the systems with UV technology, in addition to UV, also have filters that purify the water. You can also use a DI (demineralisation) filter in a UV system and thus also soften the water. However, there are several types of filters that you can place in these systems to purify different substances (think of manganese, heavy metals, sediment, chemicals and more!). The conclusion of this story is that an Osmosis treatment is 1 small part (or can be, depending on whether your water is ''hard'' and you need such a DI filter at all → you could therefore also apply other filters to based on your ''water'' need) of a system with UV technology and these UV systems therefore more extensively clean / purify water into drinking water, water suitable for washing dishes and water that you could use for a shower!
